On board for river revamp
THE community boat is most essential to the River Tawe barrage project, which was completed in 1992 to allow a mid-tidal depth within the river at all times for yachts and pleasure craft.
The Swansea Community Boat Trust, led by John Davies and Charles White, deserve full praise for their six years of commitment to finally achieve the arrival of the boat safely at the King's Dock on Thursday and to sail it around to the marina on December 17 in atrocious weather conditions.
This is just the start for them, their hard work begins in the spring, when hopefully they will organise regular trips up the River Tawe. Perhaps the council will strengthen the wooden structure to make it possible for their boat to sail safely upstream to Morriston or further?
Eventually I can imagine landing stages at various historical and popular points along both banks of the river. We wish them well in their fundraising.
