BEN Davies could be in line to win a first international cap when Wales face Scotland on Friday.

The 19-year-old defender has shot to prominence since an injury to Neil Taylor handed him a chance in the Swansea City first team.

Davies has made six Premier League appearances so far this term and may get the nod from Chris Coleman when Wales look to kick-start their World Cup qualification bid in two days' time.

"Hopefully I'll get the chance on Friday, but for a young player like me it's a great opportunity just to be around the squad," said Davies.

"It's been a big step up from what I've previously been used to. I've been thrown in at the deep end and I've just got to do my best. It gives me a lot of confidence knowing the sort of quality I have around me."

Wales take on the Scots before travelling to Croatia on Tuesday knowing a win is vital to their hopes of reaching Brazil 2014.

They began the campaign with consecutive defeats by Belgium and Serbia.

"It's been a great experience so far," added Davies.

"We know the result is a big thing on Friday — if we get three points we might have a chance of turning the group around.

"It's a tough game for us and if we can get a good result we should be able to kick on from there."

“mikeneath, you'd think he'd been the worst player on the pitch every game. He's doing very well in the circumstances but comments like your's (which are entirely unjustified) won't help. Was it Davies who gave, almost literally, the goals away versus Sunderland or Villa?
Davies has the potential to be a top player, lets try being patient and supporting him. Some so called fans don't really know how to support a team properly but I'll give you a hint, credit where it's due, criticism when it's justified and understanding during the tough times.
You'd think we were rock bottom the way some people go on!!”

“In all honesty I think the lad has huge potential but has been thrown in at the deep end and so it's not really his fault. He is definitely one for the future for us and also home grown talent. Asa for wales calling him up it just shows how weak we are as a Nation to have to call on a youngster who stepping up to international level could really harm his confidence if he is taken apart from a top international on his game.”

“I thought he playe well against Reading, if the forward players would have helped him a bit more I personally would have liked to see him plough forward a bit further”

“hes only in the squad because there was noone else to replace taylor after some bids failed for emergency loans, he is in the welsh squad for the exact same reason, hes everywhere on the pitch, and not in a good way, if it wasnt for the injuries etc he would still be in the reserves.”
