We believe in opt-out system
THE debate over whether Wales should introduce an opt-out system for organ donation has drawn some strong opinions on both sides.
On the one side, relatives of people who need transplants or, worse, died before getting one, have been promoting the plan as one that will save lives.
On the other, the idea that the state could use a relative's organs after death has been likened to legalised body-snatching.
Those interested in the debate have another opportunity to join in, at a public meeting in Swansea tomorrow night.
But we remain convinced that the "soft opt-out" system must be adopted.
Church leaders, among others, believe that better education and communication is the key to getting more people to become donors.
But campaigning has gone on for years and one person a week in Wales still dies waiting for a transplant.
The soft opt-out system will, like nothing else, force more people to have those difficult conversations with their loved ones.
