Call for bank improvement
THE Liberal Democrat opposition spokesman for Rural Affairs at the Welsh Assembly has called for a huge improvement in the provision of banking services in rural areas.
Mid and West Wales regional AM William Powell made the comments following a debate in the assembly where he highlighted the number of bank closures in rural communities.
He called for a greater role for credit unions and the establishment of a network of new community banks.
He said: "We cannot continue with the current trend towards ever more closures of rural bank branches.
