BALLBOY Charlie Morgan has become an internet sensation following his starring role in Swansea's Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea.

The son of Swansea City shareholder and director Martin Morgan, he brought a massive twist to the game when he took his time giving the ball back to home keeper Gerhard Tremmel with time running out for the away team.

Chelsea's Eden Hazard then appeared to aim a kick at him.

After a few moments of confusion and incredulation at what had taken place, Hazard was given his marching orders with a red card from the referee, Chris Foy.

South Wales Police have said since they plan to interview him.

But even as he was helped away from the pitch-side, apparently in pain, he was already the subject of an explosion of comments on social networking sites, including Twitter.

He himself had taken to Twitter before the game to talk about his role.

He tweeted: "I am ballboy player manager tonight and will be playing myself behind the home goals each half."

Incredibly, his Twitter account, which had around 600 followers before the game, has now risen to 47,000-plus and counting.

He has also been tweeted about by people the length and breadth of the country.

Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand tweeted: "What have I just witnessed?! A ball,a ball boy, a player + a red card. u would never have imagined all that could go together in 1 sentence!"

Swansea actress Joanna Page tweeted: "Thankyou to our 12th player by the way."

Singer Lily Allen, whose dad Keith originates from Llanelli, posted a link saying #prayforthelittlewelshballboy

Chief Superintendent Josh Jones of South Wales Police said tonight: "South Wales Police is aware of the incident involving a ball boy at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea tonight.

"We are making arrangements for him to be interviewed. South Wales Police takes such matters very seriously."

But a Statement on the Swansea City website said: "South Wales Police interviewed the 17-year-old ball boy with his father after the game and neither wished to press any charges.

“It was an unfortunate incident which both parties regret being involved in.

“Chelsea invited the ball boy into the dressing room after the game to shake hands with Hazard and both parties apologised.

“The ball boy was very impressed with the welcome he received from the Chelsea players and as far as both clubs and individuals are concerned the matter is closed."

Hazard said: “The boy put his whole body onto the ball and I was just trying to kick the ball. I apologise.

“The ball boy came in the changing room and we had a quick chat and I apologised and the boy apologised as well, and it is over. Sorry.”

“I have made comments elsewhere with regard to Charlie the Cheat. It is now down to the Club to take the appropriate action to ban the cheat from attending future games. He should not be invited to sit with the Directors as he did for the playoff final two years ago. He should not be allowed into Wembley Stadium. He has brought the game into disrepute and should be dealt with appropriately. Over to you Huw. Please do the honourable thing and help set an example to the youngsters.”

SHOULD have been talking about the Swans getting to a cup final not some plonker, the news is not mentioning our fantastic effort to get past Chelsea only about this idiot, hope Mr Morgan is proud of his son”

“That fat kid should have been performing at The Grand not The Liberty, what an actor!

Only goes to prove professional football is rotten to the core, from the very top all the way down to the ball boys.”

“This young cocky lad has brought shame to Swansea football club and to its supporters, if he were my son Id be giving him a harder kick up the backside - hopefully that will teach him to be respectfull !!”

“Laudrup Fears the worse: Michael Laudrup has today expressed his concerns that Tubby Morgan the Swansea city ball boy drafted in for time wasting duties in the Capital One cup semi-final second leg between the Swans and European champions Chelsea has only a 50% chance of being fit for the final, Laudrup said "the imaginary injury Tubby sustained whilst smothering the ball to prevent Eden Hazard the Chelsea midfielder from continuing with the game of play has had a severe effect on the lads frame of mind, hypecondriac Morgan is convinced there was contact and that he got severely injured, the clubs psychologists are continuing to monitor the boys condition".”

“I would have been among the masses of people congratulating the Swans for reaching the cup final, for bringing pride to the city and apparently playing better football than their opponents.

Instead, I am deeply embarrassed that Swansea is now most famous for loutish behaviour. There is no other way to describe the abuse of his position that this clown perpetrated. Did he think he was being clever? Did he think he was doing the Swans a favour? Did he think he deserved his 15 minutes of fame? Clearly this pleb premeditated his action, but I think I am offering him too much praise in apportioning him the ability to think.

I can't believe the number of supporters this little pillock has picked up on various sites. It's clear that not all the football world approves of his actions, so it leaves me to deduce that the majority of those who think the ballprat's actions were acceptable are Swans supporters; the moronic portion thereof obviously.

Despite there being little tangible evidence of the Swan's presence in the Premier League benefitting the city as a whole, I was pleased for their management, players and supporters to have achieved such a status. I now hope they tumble down the leagues as quickly as possible in order that the media spotlight has no reason to focus on the halfwits of Swansea; let them focus on the halfwits of Cardiff who will be just as likely to embarrass their city if the opportunity arises.

The action of the ballprat and the player illustrate that professional football is a contributory factor to the demise of our once great nation. I am sure the little twerp was only trying to emulate his heroes by feigning injury and what an opportunity he got from the fool in blue. Demba Ba's early shenanigans set the tone for how Chelsea wished to play the game, so they shouldn't complain that they had a dose of their own medicine. It seems that it is appropriate to interfere with the livelihoods of those seeking to make an honest living (I apologise if there were none on either team) and it deprives real football supporters (rather than the partisan who wishes his side's victory at all costs) of the game they have paid hard earned money to see. The only sign of salvation in this sorry episode is that Hazard got the red card; I hope now that SCFC is suitably chastised and that Charlie gets suitably punished. A comparatively small fine for someone on the glorified wages of a Premier League footballer and what I suspect will be lenient reprimands to the Swans and Morgan will continue to give the impression that we should all expect to get paid for doing very little, it's OK to cheat and appropriate to resort to violence when you are faced with a problem. That's what the Evening Post predominantly reports in Swansea and the surrounding area – so it's a fair assumption that there is a link.”

“I know Charlie and his family, I also know that he has stated to several people that if he could he would waste time. I'm not biased because I am not wrapped up in the emotions of the game or loyalties to any particular club. I stated "we" as I am from Swansea and remember the vetch days on the North Bank. I feel that football's taken a turn for the worst, so I choose not to follow it anymore the Swansea team is in recognisable from it's old roots and the same squad could be playing for any city who could afford them. So to answer your very small minded question the "we" was an old force of habit.”

“Not biased as you hate the game, so extremely biased then!! If you hate it so much why do you refer to "we" when you are not with us?

What the ball boy did was wrong and Laudrup denied there were any instructions from the club to waste time, so nothing to investigate. The ball boy won't make another appearance on our touchline.
It's all a huge over reaction and I wish Hazard hadn't been sent off. Then Chelsea couldn't make any excuses for losing.
Pat Nevin made me laugh, his comments were made seemingly without thinking about the diving, preening prima donna's who are a blight on football everywhere and where the ball boy probably learnt such behaviour from.”

Should Chelsea's Eden Hazard have been shown a red card after kicking a ball boy during last night's game against Swansea City?
