THE next generation of regional talent will be on show in Athlone this evening as Wales Under-20s take on Ireland in the opening match of their Six Nations campaign.

Swansea fly-half Sam Davies and Scarlets flanker Dan Thomas, both rated highly by their regions, are among the players who will be looking to showcase their potential at Dubarry Park (7.05pm BBC2W).

The likes of Ospreys No. 10 Matthew Morgan and Scarlets scrum-half Rhodri Williams, both still available for the under-20s, aren't included in this year's squad so they can continue their development for their regions in the RaboDirect Pro12. And that paves the way for ten players to win their first caps at this level.

"The first game of the tournament is always an exciting fixture," said new coach Danny Wilson.

Wales beat Ireland 38-24 in the Junior World Cup last summer, while the two sides were involved in a thrilling draw at Parc y Scarlets last season.

Wales: R. Jones; I. Evans, N. Edwards, C. Allen, L. Morgan; S. Davies, J. Evans; R. Evans, K. Myhill (capt), W. John, M. Screech, R. Hughes, E. Jenkins, R. Thomas, D. Thomas. Reps: J. Sollis, T. Davies, D. Suter, D. Crimmins, I. Jones, J. Davies, Lewis Williams, Luke Williams.
