FRESH from a victory at the Dubai Carnival, Young Mick can strike much nearer to home at Doncaster on Sunday.

The seven-year-old has been an absolute star for his Newmarket trainer George Margarson.

He rose from oblivion to become a Group-winning performer in 2006 when he won 10 races, starting off in a claimer and culminating in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.

He has had his ups and downs since then but remains a classy performer as he showed when scoring at Nad Al Sheba in February.

A horse who thrives on racing, Young Mick has been a handful since his return, leading Margarson to let him take his chance in the williamhill.com Play Roulette Doncaster Shield.

With conditions likely to be in his favour and a decent pace virtually guaranteed, Young Mick can record a popular success.

Hughie Morrison's Palace Moon could be way ahead of the handicapper in the williamhill.com Play Betlive TV Handicap.

He has only had three runs to date, winning a Salisbury maiden on the second of those.

After three months off he then ran very well behind Khor Dubai, now rated over 100.

Palace Moon gets in here off only 88 so his chance is obvious.

The Lincoln meeting has been a happy hunting ground for Barry Hills over the years and the Lambourn trainer can hit the target with Makaamen in the Society Lifestyle & Leisure Magazine Maiden Stakes.

The Selkirk colt made a promising debut when runner-up to odds-on Evasive at Newmarket in October.

Evasive looks like being a major player in the Classics for Sir Michael Stoute this year so normal improvement should see him open his account here.

Touch Of Irish makes his belated seasonal debut for Alan Swinbank in the Berwick Speedway Novices Hurdle at Kelso.

A really classy bumper performer — he was second in the Aintree bumper and arguably an even better fifth in the Punchestown equivalent — his hurdling debut is eagerly awaited.

He obviously has a touch of class but there must have been a problem that has kept him off the track until now.

However, if Swinbank thinks he is ready to go the hint should be taken.

Tom George's Oh Braga undoubtedly has ability but does have a few issues jumping fences.

Hopefully George will have done the trick with him before the Car Boot Sunday 5 April Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.

He looks to be the best horse in the race and showed when winning at Newbury in February he has plenty of ability.
