JOHN Bufton, European Member of Parliament for the United Kingdom Independence Party, opposes additional powers for the National Assembly for Wales (Have Your Say, 13 January). It is UKIP's policy to abolish the Welsh Assembly. If UKIP had their way, Wales would be left defenceless against the policies of the Coalition Government in London.

In recent weeks that would have meant a very different budget for Wales. While the progressive new Welsh Language Act and ground-breaking housing legislation to help families in Wales find homes would be inconceivable.

The need to protect Welsh communities from the excesses of the ConDem UK Government is a powerful argument in favour of voting Yes in the next referendum on March 3.

“Under the current system it is confusing for voters where powers lie. Sir Emyr Jones Parry the chair of the All Wales Convention said, "What we found was that the current arrangements for giving the assembly law-making powers... were seen as cumbersome and slow. Having the powers all at once offers distinct advantages and can only be obtained through a 'yes' vote in a referendum. If that happened, it would give particular legitimacy to the National Assembly for Wales It will make much more impact if the powers are given all at once rather than piecemeal. Powers being handed over bit by bit is simply a recipe for confusion. So ask yourself On the 3rd of March 2011 we have a chance to change the current law-making process. We want laws that affect only Wales to be made in Wales so we can make crucial decisions about life in Wales quickly and efficiently.we will have a a stronger, better, and more efficient Assembly to tackle the challenges that face Wales in the future.I' will Vote Yes for wales future!.”
