Work on transforming Glynn Vivian Art Gallery starts next week
MAJOR work on transforming Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art Gallery starts next week.
Scaffolding will go up as contractors start work on the building's 1970s wing.
A new entrance and shop into the wing forms part of the £6 million scheme. Refurbishment also includes the conservation of the 1911 gallery, a new lift, more space for displays and exhibitions, plus new lecture space.
Three trees outside the Alexandra Road building will be removed because their roots are disrupting nearby underground services, but will be replaced once the refurbishment is complete.

It is expected the gallery will reopen in autumn 2014.
The revamp was first announced in 2011. The gallery closed that year, and staff then began the mammoth task of cataloguing and removing the art collections, and surveying and preparing the building.
"Refurbishment will lead to an art gallery that's in keeping with the needs of 21st century visitors," said Councillor Nick Bradley, Cabinet Member for Regeneration.
