A WEST Wales MP has welcomed the defeat of boundary changes in the House of Commons.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr member Jonathan Edwards had previously expressed his concerns about redrawing constituencies.

The plans would also have seen the number of MPs reduced from 650 to 600, including 10 in Wales.

Mr Edwards said he was delighted that the representation of Wales would not be diminished in the next Parliament.

"The only way I would ever have voted for these new boundaries was if we saw a major transfer of powers from Westminster to our National Assembly so that the citizens of Wales have more control over their own future," the Plaid MP said.

"Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM and I have invested in a constituency office in the heart of the Teifi Valley which is testament of our commitment to the area and we're pleased the status quo will remain.

"I consider my role as a Member of Parliament to stand up for all residents of Carmarthenshire and Wales.

" I will continue to be a strong voice for my constituents and promise to fight for a fairer and more prosperous county for as long as I have the honour of representing the people of this great constituency."

“The MP,s are not against reducing our Armed Forces which affects our Security
They are very quick to jump when there is a proposal of Boundaries Changing which reduce
the amount of M.P,s which would affect them”
