Welsh should be a choice
RE: J Griffiths's letter (Have Your Say, September 24) about the teaching of the Welsh language in schools.
My children are now adults and I'm rather out of touch with what goes on in schools nowadays, but I was surprised to hear that the teaching of Welsh is being forced on children. Is this correct?
My opinion is that parents should have freedom of choice to have their children taught Welsh, but, at the same time, I think the same freedom of choice should apply to those parents who are not Welsh-speaking and have no desire for their children to be taught the language.
I may be misunderstanding the situation — if so perhaps someone, through your column, could enlighten me.

“When i made my children to get outof bed in the morning, or washing etc.,would that be seen as forcing them against their will.
Teaching them learning skills is important, and being part of their culture, which is appreciated by them in later life, one way of seeing this is when they come together, and willingly sing the national anthem.”

“SORRY FOR THE SPELLING MISTAKE SHOULD READ INFORMATION NOT INFORMATIVE THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU USE YOUR LAPTOP WHILE WORKING!
GDooyah! You wrote( "My post was an explanation, not an excuse). So please tell me what you point is? Do you have a problem with people cutting and pasting information which I used for those that lack any commonsense and to point out the positives of argument for learning welsh.. And Let me get this right because I write to much on a subject you don't read it.? Well all I can say to that its your loss!. If you want to read what I have written its your choice. At the end of the day the way I look at it! If you took time and read what I've written on the subject you might learn something?”

“Well what a surprise maxmin and gorse boy our very own laurel and hardy isn't it a shame that these two clowns aren't that funny. Yes I did cut and paste that information to show the positives of leaning the welsh language like dooyya pointed out we only have 40000 character limit.. max-a moron you go on about paragraphs and a few punctuation marks and capital letters but you do understand what I have written that's good enough for me and if it gets on your nerves because of that then its fine all the better. please do get a life old boy! Tally_ho_old chap!! I do find the anti-welsh language brigade to be very childish these people have lost the war and the argument about welsh being taught in our schools and because it's a fact that in welsh law that our children learn the language of the country that they are born in they just don't like it. I find it funny that Across the world many children grow up learning and speaking two languages; for example, in Canada they learn French and English and in Catalonia they learn Basque and Spanish. When a child grows up speaking two languages and with access to two different cultures. By being immersed in a language, a child learns the language much quicker, even a couple of hours a day can make a huge difference.
Increasingly employers in Wales stipulate being fluent in Welsh as a pre-requisite, this is especially true in the public sector.children who understand more than one language are more creative and flexible thinkers. You can see if you are brought up just speaking one language there is the danger that you just might turn into a small minded bigoted intolerant person who refuses to accept that welsh is being taught to our children just like our friend max-a moron.”
