Welsh businesses urged to eye rail contracts
BUSINESSES in Wales are being urged to seize the opportunities that Crossrail — Europe's biggest construction project — has to offer.
The new rail line, which will link Berkshire with Essex via 21 kilometres of twin tunnels under London, has awarded contracts with a value of more than £5.5billion and it is estimated that enough work will be generated to support the equivalent of 55,000 full-time jobs.
However, the majority of contracts are yet to be awarded.
Welsh Business Minister Edwina Hart said: "It's good to hear that some companies in Wales are already benefiting from the Crossrail project and many others are showing interest in the new business opportunities being offered. "There will be many more chances for Welsh firms to benefit from contracts throughout the life of this major infrastructure project and I would urge businesses in Wales to make the most of these potential supply chain opportunities."

“I think Wales cares more about electrifying the Cardiff Valley lines rather than some project in London that's got nothing to do with us.”
