WELSH Finance Minister Jane Hutt is calling on the UK Government to boost economic growth.

She has joined forces with finance ministers from devolved administrations to make the call.

In a joint letter to Danny Alexander, chief secretary to the Treasury, the finance chiefs have called on the Government to use the forthcoming Budget and Spending Round to push forward a major programme of infrastructure projects and activities to help revive the economy.

Ms Hutt said: "The Welsh Government's focus has continued to be on boosting growth and jobs but the UK Government's cuts have been too deep and too fast and have hampered our efforts to boost economic growth.

"The additional capital funding allocated in last year's Autumn Statement was welcome but the fact remains that we're continuing to see significant reductions to our capital budgets."

She also spoke of her concern that the increase had been financed through cuts elsewhere.

“The coalitions fate was decided in it's very first budget back in 2010 when it canceled just about every capital project under it's remit. From then on any chance of growth in the economy was gone. Sadly for the UK it will take until 2015 for this to change. The coalition could of course change track now, but they will not as it will be too great a loss of face for them.”
