THIRTEEN fresh cases of swine flu were confirmed in Wales over the weekend, as the virus enters a new phase.

The new cases bring the national total to 50, including five in Swansea.

It comes amid new evidence of the secondary spread of the virus in Wales, with people having caught the virus from others infected in their homes.

The NPHS is monitoring the spread of swine flu using reports of GPs' diagnoses of flu from more than 300 surgeries across Wales.

Tony Jewell, chief medical officer for Wales, said: "We knew there would be an increase in the number of cases, and we have robust plans in place to deal with it. Scientific advice now is that there will continue to be a rise in the number of cases across the UK and we should move to treatment rather than trying to slow the spread of disease."

“It's already spreading in the community. Some people do not know they have had it, it can be so mild. I'm five days into it and it is not fun. The temperature, headache, throat and general weakness came out of the blue.”

“Sorry Leigh you don't have Swine Flu. Your first symptom will be a sudden onset of a fever. Sounds like you have Pig Out Flu to me!”

“I think it should be 6 for Swansea ever since I had that Mexican Fajitas from the local sketty shop, I've started to feel drowsy, coughing a lot and generally lethargic. Time to buy more Lemsip me thinks.”
