DESPITE the showery weather, the 68th Swansea Junior Tennis Championship was a resounding success.

The annual tennis competition took place from August 8-13 and saw more than 250 players from Wales and all over the UK compete in 12 age categories, each vying to become the 2011 Swansea Junior champion of their respective age groups.

Simon Pritchard from Newport and Laura Eales from Gloucester won the Under 18s tournament, while local boys, Matt Lloyd and Matt Story won the under-14 boys' doubles.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's strategic manager for tourism, marketing and events, said:"The Swansea Junior Tennis Championship has been established for many years and is always a popular part of the Summer Grade 3 Junior Grand Prix Series.
