Weather delays repair work on Swansea apple landmark
WORK to repair a damaged Mumbles landmark has been delayed again by the weather.
Contractors were this week due to start work on the Big Apple, overlooking Bracelet Bay, to have it repaired in time for the coming tourist season.

The Big Apple kiosk.
The 80-year-old kiosk, which has served snacks and buckets and spades to generations of holidaymakers, suffered extensive damage after a car ploughed into it last August, prompting fears it may have to be demolished.
Engineers quashed the initial fears and were due to have begun preparatory work earlier this year, but a prolonged period of snow and rain meant the work was put off.
Work was then due to begin this week, but concern over conditions being unsuitable for some materials led to the latest delay.
A spokesman for owner Ameco said: "Starting site preparation under the blustery conditions has proved challenging. In addition to these delays, contractors are wary about commencing work without materials being able to set properly during low temperatures.
"The result is that work will probably now go on into the Easter weekend. This is regrettable but cannot be helped if we want to get the kiosk available for the season."
The Big Apple — a single sphere of reinforced concrete — dates from the 1930s, and was one of a series built as a publicity stunt for an apple drink.
It was only intended to last a couple of years, but proved unexpectedly resilient and is believed to be the only one left.
Following its damage, a campaign to safeguard its future was launched on Facebook, which has attracted more than 27,500 members.
Ameco has admitted it may have to be relocated in order to preserve its long-term future.
Its eventual location will depend on multi-million pound plans to develop the pier area. Ameco is hoping to develop a luxury hotel and spa, with all-weather attractions, a family entertainment centre, restaurants, seafront accommodation, a new offshore lifeboat facility and improved parking and public spaces.
If plans go ahead, it could see the Big Apple moved to the foreshore, or even Mumbles Pier.
