Weather cancels charity swim
ONE of the biggest events in Port Talbot's sporting calendar had to be postponed for the first time in its 45-year history.
Organisers of the Round the Pier Swim said they were forced to call the swim off due to extreme weather conditions.
But they already have a new date lined up — this Sunday at 11am.
Race organiser Bernard Donovan said: "It was too dangerous to hold the race last Saturday but we are hoping everybody can attend on Sunday instead."
The event has been organised by Aberavon Green Stars RFC since 1969 and starts and finishes at the clubhouse, entailing a run of about 500m to the sea, a swim around the pier of 700m and the run back. Safety coverage is provided by Aberavon Surf Lifesaving Club, Aberavon Canoe Club and Port Talbot RNLI.
The swim will be followed by a presentation and live music in the clubhouse.
