THE man behind a funding bid to transform Coleshill Social Centre has warned: "There is no plan B."

Dr Brickchand Ramruttun was speaking at a Llanelli Town Council meeting, where he told councillors of plans to revamp the centre into a new service, enabling disabled people to live independently.

At present, only half the centre is used, with the other half falling into a state of disrepair.

Carmarthenshire Council and Carmarthenshire Local Health Board is hoping to fund the revamp as part of the £15million convergence bid to regenerate Llanelli town centre.

If the bid is successful, the intention is to create a state-of-the-art centre that will house a variety of functions aimed at enabling independent living, including training opportunities, information, rehabilitation, business development and other employment- related support services.

But Dr Ramruttun, manager of the health, social care and well-being partnership, admitted the funding bid was the key to the centre's development.

"At this stage I have to get my head down and work towards getting this money," he said.

"I am not aware of any other possibility to refurbish Coleshill — the convergence funding is probably the only fund available to do it."

A decision on the bid is expected in early Spring.
