GENEROUS church-goers in Ammanford have dug deep to ensure lonely people in the community have a happy Christmas.

The Ammanford Evangelical Church has been putting on a Christmas Day meal for lonely people in the community for more than 15 years.

This year people in the church have been filling bags with chocolates and presents to give to people at the event which will take place from 1pm to 3.30pm at the Pensioner's Hall in Quay Street, Ammanford.

Sammy Davies, assistant pastor at the Ammanford Evangelical Church, said: "People think Christmas is a wonderful time of year but for some people the hype around it can actually make their loneliness even more acute."
