WALES coach John Toshack looked ahead to a Euro 2012 qualifying group that features two matches against England and echoed Fabio Capello by crying: "Bring it on."

Those were the words Capello used to describe the potential for a Battle of Britain clash at yesterday's draw in Warsaw.

England were dumped into Group G, which also features Montenegro, Bulgaria and World Cup qualifiers Switzerland.

Toshack understands all of those matches represent stiff tests for his young team. But he also knows it is the clashes with England that will grab the attention of the Welsh public.

Go

"I like the group. We will have a good go at it," he said.

"England is a big game. We know all about them and they know all about us.

"It is not that long ago we had a couple of cracking under-21 games against them.

"Most of those lads who played in those matches will be in the squad when these games come around next year, which is an exciting prospect."

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey and West Ham's Jack Collison were both part of the Wales side for those two under-21 fixtures, England clinging on in front of nearly 25,000 at Villa Park to earn a 5-4 aggregate win that earned them a place at the European Championship finals.

The pair are now part of a senior set-up that also contains Joe Ledley, Simon Church and David Edwards, giving Toshack five high-class youngsters to build a team around.

Although Toshack did hint at the possibility of getting England to play at one of the new stadiums in Cardiff and Swansea where an intense atmosphere can be guaranteed, the Welsh FA are virtually certain to host that contest at the Millennium Stadium to maximise income.

Battle

Joe Cole scored the only goal when the two sides last met in Cardiff during the battle to reach the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.

Fortunes have changed for both sides since then, with England now regarded by many — including Toshack — as one of the favourites for this summer's World Cup.

In contrast, Wales have slid down the rankings to the extent of ending up in Pot Four for the draw.

"We lost to England in Cardiff just after I had taken over," reflected Toshack.

"But things have changed a lot for us since then and they have for England as well.

"Obviously it will be a difficult one for us and England will be the favourites for the group," he added, "but our lads will relish the challenge."

“terry the terrier, townhill - I agree, but I can't see it happening. Cardiff is the capital and a match this important is bound to be played in Cardiff. I think some of the group matches should be played in Swansea though. It's only fair to Welsh fans to be able to see their team nearer their home.”
