Wales needs to create more jobs
THE Alberto Culver factory in Swansea is not closing because work is going to Poland.
Most of its work is going to Cheshire. But the Polish plant's gain will add to the Swansea workers' anguish.
It is, though, a fact of business life. Companies are always looking to move work to cut costs, increase their profits and secure their future.
Welsh politicians work hard to attract investment. Sometimes that happens at the cost of work — and jobs — in other countries.

Protectionism is not the answer, even if it was legal under European employment laws.
We need a strong Welsh economy that creates its own jobs.

“@Brochadev
And that's the point. We have gotten poorer because of the Union. So basically what you're offering is a race to the bottom. At some point we are going to have to grow a pair and start taking risks. It's no different to starting a business. It's a risk. If it's a really good idea it might be a big risk. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken. The alternative for us is more unemployment, more businesses going to the wall, and more cuts in key services as our tax base erodes further.
Or, we get our Independence and get ourselves the economic tools to do the job properly, rather than what we have now which is some bovine, useless idiot like Carwyn Jones with his plastic hammer and saw and his Mickey Mouse Parliament in Cardiff Bay.”

“Einon, if you think Wales can stand alone you are dreaming. I will admit that's because of what Westminster has done to Wales over generations but without English tax payers money Wales would be bankrupt very soon.”

“Immigrant, I don't doubt Poles are good workers and if they have a higher skill set I'll have to put that down to a lack of training opportunities, something successive British governments should be ashamed of.
The EU is supposed to harmonise everything but it seems the standard is set at the lowest common denominator. The worst off aren't being brought up to a good level, most of us are being pushed backwards, Victoriana here we come!!
By the way, I worked hard all my adult life untl illness got a grip on me and I will still take a job if someone will give me one!!”

“The EP editor is quite right - the jobs aren't going to Poland. They're going to England. In much the same way that the EP itself shut down it's printing works in Swansea and shipped the jobs to Bristol - In England. So for the Editor of the EP to claim that "Protectionism isn't the answer" seems a bit rich.
Protectionism IS the answer. But we won't get it in the UK or Europe. And as long as we have a lame duck Unionist Labour administration in Cardiff Bay Welsh businesses will continue to close and ship off to everywhere but Wales. The slogan "Britain Isn't Working" never seemed so apt. We need in Wales the power to not just protect our manufacturing base but the power to rebuild it. We won't get that in the Union.
The only money and support the Unionist politicians have to offer is for their best butties - the Bankers and the City of London.”

“Williamwaun: While I don't agree with all of Neathboy's comments, I find his remarks far more engaging and open-minded than the majority of (yawn) predictable responses. Rather than banning people whose comments irritate us, it might be more helpful to consider why their words bother us so much.”

“williamwaun I've just had a look at UR posts over the past 7 days. On 5 occasions U started your post with the word(s) neathboy. It would seem that it is U who are obsessed with replying to me. But don't worry i wouldn't be after ur IP address and seeking to have U banned.
BTW try not to use abusive language in your post as U did in the one 5.29, it's only gets blanked out with stars anyway.”

“williamwaun I do make comments on what other people say and they do it in return. If U look through my posts U will often see that i am the first to comment on a new article. I may indeed be getting on your nerves, probably because i often beat u in an argument. I can't help it if i'm sometimes cleaver than u.
As far as my working arrangements, like the majority in the steelworks i work 12 hours shifts 7 till 7, I work 4 days on and have 4 days off, every 7 weeks i have 18 days off. Sorry if that upsets up, what upsets U most is my liberal views and my dislike of racists. U only have to look through the various posts on Gypsies to see that. Oh and of course i am in favor of the EU/Assembly/globalization/HR/and not forgetting wind energy. If u don't like perhaps U could move to website where everyone will agree with ur views, there are a few out there don't u know.”

“Maybe we can have a petition to ban Neathboy234 IP address. We need to contact someone who runs this website. He doesn't comment on the story, but on everyone's comments. The bloke is an *****. He says he works in the steelworks and has holidays, I think he's a fibber. He's on here everyday. Get his IP address banned from this site. He's getting on everyone's nerves now.”
