Wales too good for Bulgarians
WALES Women produced a stunning display for new Finnish-born team manager Jarmo Matikainen in a friendly international against Bulgaria at Cefn Druids Rock ground.
In the final match of the year, in bitterly cold conditions, it heralded the beginning of preparations for the Euro 2013 qualification campaign.
Wales were quickly into their attacking stride and roke through on 12 minutes when after a Gwennan Harries shot rebounded off the bar, and Jessica Fishlock fired home.
Additional pressure three minutes later saw Wales profit with a second goal, when former Cwmtawe Comprehensive pupil Loren Dykes engineered an opening for Helen Lander to send a low shot into the corner of the net.
On the half hour Jayne Ludlow, on her 50th senior appearance, netted with a side- foot volley from close range.
After the interval Helen Lander got number four, and prior to the hour, full-back Jasmin Dutton despatched a 35-yard touchline free-kick into the Bulgarian net.
The visitors opened their account in the 61st minute with a shot by Gergena Tznakova.
Cheryl Foster applied a composed finish from 12 yards, soon followed by a seventh goal when Harries got her second.
With a minute left, Uwic midfielder Nia Jones, on her international debut, fired home following a Harries corner.
