Wales Audit office report on authorities' spending welcomed by Tories
A REPORT on how Welsh authorities spend public cash on consultants has been welcomed by Tories.
The Wales Audit Office said the amount being spent on these services had fallen, but value for money could not be demonstrated.
Paul Davies AM, Shadow Minister for Finance, said: "It is right that public bodies should be able to outsource certain operations to make the best use of available expertise to help improve the delivery of services.
"However, unless there are robust measures in place to manage expenditure on consultancy services, costs can easily spiral and public bodies risk ending up writing blank cheques.

Councillors are the directors of the company(Council)and have ultimate responsability for the actions of the Council.”

“From the tone of the article the journalist is trying to blame Cllrs for employing Consultants. However the real blame is with senior Council Officers who want to achieve a change or a cut and who employ an "independent consultant" to come up with the recommendation the officer requires. If Councillors have blame it is due to their poor control over these senior officers and the lack of knowlege of their cabinet responsiblities. All to often "independent consultants" are ex colleagues or friends of the senior officers and know exactly what they have to write in their reports...the last thing they are is independent.”
