Wait is almost over for GCSE students
GCSE pupils in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot will be collecting their exam results on Thursday, putting an end to an anxious few months for youngsters.
But with life after school being one of the biggest decisions school- leavers will have to make, Careers Wales is urging them not to panic.
According to its 2011 Pupil Destinations Report, the number of Year 11 pupils continuing to study in full time education after their GCSEs has risen to 85 per cent — a 2 per cent increase from the previous year. In Swansea 30 per cent of students went on to full time education in school, with 55 per cent going into full time education in college, while in Neath Port Talbot only 14 per cent went on to full time education in school with 71 per cent going to college.
The report also highlights a drop in the number of young people known not to be in education, training or employment after leaving Year 11 between 2007 and 2011.
