Volunteers are wanted to help community clean-up
LITTER pickers will be descending on a Swansea green space they want to save for future generations this weekend.
Birchgrove Community Association has been given £250 in Vouchers by Keep Wales Tidy and DIY chain B&Q.
The vouchers will be used to enhance the Parc-yr-Helig park and conservation area in Birchgrove.
It has been listed as a candidate site in the Swansea local development plan.
But volunteers feel it should be kept for future generations to enjoy.
Association members will be carrying out the litter pick and installing habitat boxes this Sunday from 10.30am onwards.
And they have invited anyone interested in helping with the community effort to join them.
Volunteer Matt Smith said: "Thanks to the generosity of B&Q and Keep Wales Tidy, we are able to carry out wildlife conservation activities to improve this green area in between the local housing estates.
"It's really important that the area is improved and saved for recreation, outdoor play and conservation for our children and our children's children."
The vouchers will also help buy bulbs to be planted in Emily Lane in September this year. This area, by the site of the Old Terrace Inn, as well as Parc-yr-Helig, has been cleared by local people this year in readiness for further work to take place.
Another volunteer, Heather Dunlop, added: "We have many people to thank for the success we have had so far.
"Firstly, the local residents and also one of our county councillors, Ryland Doyle, who have all got stuck in.
"We also appreciate the support of our Keep Wales Tidy Officer, Phil Davies, who has been very helpful and the advice we have received from the council."
