PEOPLE in Capel Dewi are hoping a new community shop will help strengthen their village when it opens next month.

It has been set up by a community group called Dolen Dewi, which promotes Capel Dewi near Llandysul.

The shop will be in an old kitchen attached to the side of the village hall.

The organisers are appealing for local producers and volunteers to come forward and get involved.

The last village shop in Capel Dewi closed many years ago.

The new project is to develop a small convenience store for the village — run by the villagers.

One of those behind the project is community councillor Tom Cowcher, who said it would also create a focal point for the area.

"I think this is as important as a social enterprise as it is a business," he said.

"There are a number of people in the village who don't drive and there will be a table and a few chairs and they can enjoy meeting people as well."

It is expected the shop could be fully open by mid-March.
