Video shows what might have been for Swansea City Centre
OUR city centre is changing - but not necessarily to the tune of this video.
The film was circulated around 2008 as a vision of the future for Swansea.
It shows graphical representations of places like the LC, the Boulevard, the old David Evans site and other parts of the city.
But while the LC and the Princess Way development (although it still has empty units) have come to fruition, and work is taking place right now on the Boulevard, most of the other depictions in this video are still in the realm of fantasy.
And they may stay there for the time-being, after the announcement earlier this month that Hammerson, which was selected in 2008 to help deliver a £1billion regeneration of the city centre, much the same as what was mooted in this video, had pulled out.
So who knows when, if ever, we will see the fantastic Rome-like square around the Dylan Thomas Centre, the large piazza at the heart of the new Quadrant Square area, or the fabulous looking St David’s Square development?
In the meantime, it remains just a glimpse of what is, what will be soon, and what might have been.
