Vattenfall due to start work on Pen y Cymoedd wind farm between Neath and Aberdare
THE first trees are set to be felled to make way for the largest onshore wind farm in England and Wales, between Neath and Aberdare.
Development of the 76-turbine Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Project was set to get under way today.
The felling of trees on site is expected to take 15 months with construction work likely to start in 2014.
The wind farm is being delivered by Swedish firm Vattenfall and is expected to start generating its first electricity in 2016.

Forestry Commission Wales manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and is carrying out the first phase of work.
Piers Guy, Vattenfall's UK development director for onshore wind, said: "Felling is only the initial stage, it will be another two years until people see any of the turbines going up.
"Health and safety is our main priority throughout any works of this nature, and we have established a site office to monitor the progress of this preparation work."
