MUMBLES maintained their perfect start to the season in division three south west with a 13-0 win at Vardre.

Mumbles led by that score at the break but that was the extent of the scoring. Full-back Andrew Claypole and prop David Littlehales scored tries and centre Greg Davies landed a penalty.

Unbeaten Trebanos kept up the pressure on the leaders with a handsome 36-7 home win against Neath Athletic, despite four of their players receiving yellow cards at various times. Athletic had only one player sent to the sin-bin.

Trebanos roared into a 31-0 lead by half-time with five tries, but crossed just the once after the break.

Wing Matthew Edwards got two tries, scrum-half Nathan Jones dashed 50 yards for an excellent score, with wing Gareth Hopkins, full-back Kristian Jones and former Alltwen prop Alun Dew getting the others. Centre Rhodri Thomas converted three of them.

Bryncoch won a high-scoring game at home to Morriston 44-22, rattling up seven tries in the process.

Centre Andrew Spratt and skipper and co-centre Craig Thomas got two apiece, with flanker Rhys Jones, wing Mark O'Connell and full-back Jonathan Bromham also crossing. Fly-half Gavin Jones added three conversions and a penalty.

Ystalyfera won their local derby against Brynaman 29-9 after tries by No. 8 Owain Morgan, hooker Arwel Williams and centre Craig Watkins (2) plus three conversions and a penalty by Gareth James. They led 12-6 at half-time.

There was a 40-minute delay after Brynaman No. 8 Simon Bugler dislocated a knee after 10 minutes of play while an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital. Fortunately he was later discharged.

Resolven lost 17-9 at Maesteg Celtic, while bottom side Aberavon Green Stars went down 44-5 at Pencoed.
