Vardre rugby youngsters lack numbers
RUGBY-mad children in the Swansea Valley are being left kicking their heels because their numbers just don't add up.
Despite Wales supposedly being obsessed with the oval ball due to the Six Nations, a Vardre junior side cannot field a team.

Try as they might, the Clydach-based youngsters in the under-12 age group cannot get enough budding Justin Tipurics and George Norths to join them.
Whether players are being lost to soccer, with the Swans winning the hearts and minds of youngsters across South West Wales, other sports such as swimming or cycling, or even the PlayStation, the side is in danger of folding.

The side's team manager, Rhian Weaver, said: "Numbers have fallen this season due to a number of reasons. We played a few games at the beginning of the season but that has been it.
"We need to attract more players or we are in danger of folding."
Mrs Weaver said the club played a big part in the community, adding: "It would be such a shame as this group of players have been together since the under-8s."
They have now turned to Evening Post readers for help. She said: "We have tried putting posters up in the village and we have even handed out fliers but so far we haven't got any new players."
A spokesman for the Welsh Rugby Union has offered support, saying: "There is intense competition for the attention of young men and women during their leisure time at this age from many areas, including all sports, and the WRU will continue to work with clubs such as Vardre to help them retain their young players."

“Expect a lot more of this, rugby is dying on it's feet. The club that i use to play for use to have a 3rd side, that went many years ago. The seconds went the same way a few years back. I can see the day coming soon where teams will struggle to put out one side. Rugby is going the same was as the chapels”
