Valencia 0 Swansea City 3
SWANSEA City recorded one of the greatest wins in their 101-year history as they hammered Valencia 3-0 in the Europa League.
It was a stunning performance by Michael Laudrup’s side as they opened their group campaign in style against the Spanish giants.
The home side played 80 minutes with ten men after defender Adil Rami was dismissed for hauling down Wilfried Bony.
Valencia, two-time Champions League finalists, were in trouble from that moment.
Bony gave Swansea the lead in the 14th minute, firing home with the help of a deflection.
Swansea had chances to extend the lead before the break, but went in just a goal up.
And they had numerous chances in the second period, perhaps the best falling to Michu, whose left-foot shot from close range sailed over the bar.
But it was the Spaniard who eventually doubled the advantage when the excellent Alejandro Pozuelo delivered a superb pass to tee up Michu for the second in the 58th minute.
A wonderful Jonathan de Guzman free-kick from 30 yards completed the scoring as Swansea cruised to victory at a stunned Mestalla.
