POLICE are advising people to keep an eye on the weather forecast and take steps to keep themselves and their families safe as a major Atlantic storm bears down on South West Wales.
Winds are predicted to hit 80mph overnight and up to two inches of rain are expected as the storm hits land in the early hours of tomorrow.
Natural Resources Wales is warning of the risk of localised flooding and disruption, and Dwr Cymru has said it will have extra staff on duty to respond to any incidents.
The storm has been nicknamed St Jude — tomorrow is St Jude’s Day, the patron saint of desperate causes.
A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is working closely with our partner agencies monitoring the severe weather expected this evening and overnight.
“Plans and resources are in place should the need arise.
“We are urging the public to keep an eye on weather forecasts and take appropriate steps and precautions to minimise the impact of such weather and keep themselves and others safe.”
