LEE Trundle admits the pressure is mounting in his bid to prove his worth at Swansea City.

And the on-loan Bristol City man is keeping his fingers crossed for a chance to strut his stuff against Scunthorpe United this weekend — because the Iron have proved lucky opponents in the past.

Trundle has netted seven goals in eight career starts against Scunthorpe, and the Scouse star hopes for another chance to impress at Glanford Park on Saturday.

"I want to try to secure my place at Swansea," said Trundle, who is on loan at the Liberty until January.

"It's been a little bit frustrating sitting on the bench because I want to be out on the pitch playing football and showing what I can do.

"The pressure is on. With each month that goes by I feel as though I need to get out there more and start doing well, because that's the way I'm going to secure my future here.

"I want to claim a place at Swansea so there is some frustration, but all I can do is keep working hard in training and, when I come on, try to do well and get a few more goals."

Trundle has scored twice in one start and four substitute appearances since returning to Swansea in August.

And while he is desperate for more game time, the 33-year-old is quick to praise the efforts of his team-mates.

"Although in my heart I want to get on the pitch so I can stake a claim to stay, it's great to see the team doing well," he added.

"When you are going to places like West Brom and getting a result like we did, you don't mind because it's about the team winning.

"I came back here to help Swansea climb the table and we have gone on a run where we haven't been beaten for a while, so I can't complain.

"I haven't been on at the manager or anything like that — I'm just working hard and hoping he will see that.

"I am keeping my head down in training and I suppose we will have a chat about where we are a little bit further down the line."

Trundle's best hope of some action at Scunthorpe is likely to be as a substitute, with Paulo Sousa likely to stick with only one central striker and Craig Beattie in pole position for that slot right now.

Trundle will be full of confidence if he does feature having scored against United for Wrexham, Swansea and Bristol City.

"They are one of my teams," Trundle added.

"I seem to have scored against them quite often so hopefully that will continue on Saturday."

“Time and Tide wait for no man but there is no doubt that from a "spice boy" beginning Lee Trundle has matured to become a fine ambassador for Swansea City.
Mr Sousa now has genuine competition for place which is driving team performances and individual improvement from certain players.
Lee is an integral part of this and must persevere.
The reward could be a place in a play-off Wembley final.
The alternative is a good kicking in the lower divisions - "that`s football".”
