Trimsaran Rugby Club unveils exciting plans to build brand new club house
THE secretary of Trimsaran Rugby Club has unveiled exciting plans to build a brand new club house in the centre of the village.
Stuart Jones has asked the council's planning department for permission to build the new community club house on land off Heol Llanelli near their playing fields.
It would replace their current club based at 40 Heol Llanelli, which members feel has "served its purpose".
They feel the move to the new site, which would be built on their own land, would allow them to benefit from the footfall brought from spectators to sports games held in the area every week.
"We have thought about it for a long time," Mr Jones said.
"Our finances have started to do a little bit better recently and we decided that the present club has served its purpose and everything is calling out for the move in terms of the location.
"Our fields are used a lot, especially with junior teams and others coming from Llanelli and it is absolutely chock-a-block, but because the rugby fields are a little way off the club it means passing trade doesn't go into the club as well.
"We are doing OK but we could do better, even if it is somewhere for parents to go and sit down and have a cup of coffee or the children to have a soft drink."
Mr Jones added that the plans are still in the early stages but that it could help boost the area in the future.
"Hopefully we will get permission and hopefully bring a bit more employment to the area," he said.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Trimsaran, Dr Barrie Williams has also been in touch with the planning department in a bid to convert the former Derwendeg Medical Centre into a dwelling.
Dr Dundrow and Partners relocated from the site to the leisure centre earlier this year after a decision was made to axe the library and replace it with a surgery.
Mr Williams spoke out over the move at the time, and stated the former building would be turned into a house if the decision was not reversed. It now appears he is going ahead with the plans.
