Trick or TREAT month launched by charity this week
A CHARITY which is aiming to develop a multi-million pound rehabilitation centre at Morriston Hospital has launched a special fundraising month.
Treat Trust Wales — set up by accident victim Melanie Davies and her then surgeon and now husband, Mike — is making October Trick or Treat month.
And the initiative has been praised by their patron, Hollywood superstar, Michael Sheen.
The aim is to raise more awareness of the charity and help raise the funding needed for the unit, which is due to be built on land alongside Morriston Hospital.
Events due to be held this month will take place at a number of businesses at High Street's Urban Village — the new home of the South Wales Evening Post.
Raspberry Cakery — whose owner is Treat's marketing and publicity officer, Rhian Daniel, — will hold a bake off event, while nearby cafe Mosaic is hosting a best recipe competition.
Tickled children's hair salon, also at the Urban Village, will also be hosting an art competition for their customers.
Sheen, who was awarded a Welsh Bafta this week, said: "What a wonderful initiative this is.
"As a patron, I'm delighted that three businesses in Swansea High Street's Urban Village are teaming up together for our charity, Treat Wales.
"It is a pleasure to know that Treat's involvement will be helping to play a part in the High Street regeneration.
"Regrettably my filming commitments in Los Angeles will prevent my being present in person at Trick or Treat Month, but I shall be keeping closely in touch with what I know promises to be a significant and fun event involving people of all ages."
A ladies night is also due to be held on October 18 at Pontarddulais Rugby Club in aid of the charity.
On October 15 a book club run at Raspberry Cakery will also host a question and answer session with Mrs Davies on her book Never Say Die.
The book recounts her fight against adversity, after she was left in a wheelchair following a motorbike accident aged just 14.
The Great Swansea Bake Off will take place on October 26.
Ms Daniel said: "It's about getting Treat mentioned as much as we can throughout the month."
