Tributes go out to 'real character'
THE family of a man known as Bumper to his many friends have spoken of how much they will miss him.
Police have now officially named 57-year-old Philip Henry Williams as the victim of a collision at 10.30pm on Saturday on the Crofty Industrial Estate, Penclawdd, Swansea.
Tributes have poured in for the man from Llanrhidian.
Speaking via South Wales Police, his family joined those tributes today.
In a statement, they said: "Philip was employed by Swansea City Council as a road cleaning operative. He was well known locally, and was affectionately known by his nickname Bumper.
"Philip was regularly to be seen riding his bicycle around the Penclawdd area and also enjoyed walking and gardening.
Missed
"He was a keen enthusiast of tractors and owned his own, which he maintained himself. He will be missed by his many friends and family, and especially by his sister Elizabeth and his mother Joan."
A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision and is currently on police bail pending further inquires.
Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and witnessed the incident or saw the manner in which a blue Mitsubishi vehicle was being driven prior to or following the collision to come forward.
Mr Williams was pronounced dead at Morriston Hospital following the incident.
He was well known to Dolphin Inn landlord Michael Beynon, who said he knew Mr Williams from his school days and as a customer at his pub.
"Philip was a one-off," said Mr Beynon earlier this week.
"He would do anything for anyone.
"He was really genuine and hardworking, and a real character.
"He loved his job and his lawnmowers. He didn't drive and used to tow his lawnmower behind his push bike from Llanrhidian to Rhossili, where he cut people's lawns, and then back again."
