Tributes to Loughor death crash biker Jonathan Smith
TRIBUTES have been paid to an all-action gym instructor and motorcyclist who died on Tuesday night.
South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which also involved a silver Nissan Micra.
The fitness trainer, named locally as Jonathan Smith from Loughor, had served in the Army but worked at Fitness Studio, Gorseinon Road, between Gorseinon and Penllergaer, and also at Burns Fitness in Mariner Street, Swansea.
He died following the collision at 7.30pm involving his silver Kawasaki ZX6R motorbike and the Micra.
Police said at the time the car was turning on to Alexandra Road from Park Road while Mr Smith was travelling along Alexandra Road towards Loughor.
Paramedics treated both parties, but Mr Smith died at Morriston Hospital shortly afterwards.
Fitness Studio manager Dawn Bishop said she had been chatting to Mr Smith just before he had ridden away from the premises on Tuesday evening, where he had been taking classes.
“I just can’t believe it,” she said. “He was a great guy, very professional and got along with everybody.”
Mrs Bishop said she understood Mr Smith was aged 46 and had children. “Our thoughts are just with his family,” she added.
John Burns, the owner of Burns Fitness, said staff there were dumbstruck by the tragedy.
“He had only been with us for about four months, but he had made a huge difference,” he said.
“He was great with customers, very popular and very thorough.”
He said he understood that Mr Smith had served in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan during his Army days.
“We will really miss him,” he said.
Alexandra Road was closed for around hours following the accident.
South Wales Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident.
