The family of a man who died following a collision on Swansea's Fabian Way paid tribute to him today.

Kyle James Simpkins, 23, from the Cwmavon area of Port Talbot, died in the early hours of yesterday morning following a collision involving a silver Subaru Impreza.

In a statement, the family said: “Kyle was a much loved son, brother, nephew and cousin.

“Kyle had turned his life around when his girlfriend Paige gave birth to their baby son, Riley, and he had taken to fatherhood better than everyone expected and the change in him was a pleasure to see.

“From the age of seven to 15, Kyle played football for Cwmavon Boys Club, he also enjoyed nature and the abundance of local wildlife.”

“Kyle will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.”

Fabian Way was closed for much of yesterday, with traffic diverted up Pentreguinea Road towards the M4.

Police in Swansea are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area from 11.30pm onwards on Saturday night.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit in Lakeside on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“I'm so sorry for your loss Paige. I live in Cwmavon and have seen the tributes on Facebook, Kyle was a popular young Man. I really hope that something will be done about Fabian Way now, something's got to give. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, accidents have happened there during the day. There needs to be a speed restriction there or as the comments state below a bridge. We've got plenty in Port Talbot going to waste, it's just ridiculous! R.I.P Kyle my heart goes out to your Family Paige and your Baby.”

“Actually the driver of the Subaru was doing 2mph under the speed limit (48mph) as proved by the police. What the council should do is keep the street lighting on like the olden days, so i think the finger should be pointed at them that's all they think of is cutbacks to save money not keeping lights on which could save lives. when someone who have just been for a night out in Swansea and was full of alcohol and then tried to walk up Fabien Way dressed in dark clothing its an accident waiting to happen, people are blaming the driver of the car but why not blame Mr Simpkins for going onto the road as that's where he was run over not on the pavement where he should have been!!! The main ones to blame is the council for being too tight to leave street lighting on!!!”

“Bring back bridges and subways and use some of this 'boulevard' money to help link Port Tennant and St Thomas with the SA1 development. Maybe then this senseless tragedy will be the last of its kind on Fabin Way. Sympathy to all involved x”
