Trial date for Gleision mining disaster set
A DATE has been set for the trial of the manager of the Gleision colliery and the company which owned it.
During a hearing at Swansea Crown Court, The Honourable Justice Wyn Williams set a trial date of March 24, 2014.
Four men, Philip Hill, 44, Charles Breslin, 62, David Powell, 50, and Garry Jenkins, aged 39, lost their lives in the disaster on September 15, 2011.
Malcolm Fyfield, aged 57, and the two directors of MNS Mining Ltd, Maria Seage and Gerald Ward, all appeared in court.
Fyfield, of Caerhenllys, Cwmllynfell, faces four counts of gross negligence manslaughter.
The company faces four counts of corporate manslaughter.
A hearing where both parties are expected to enter their pleas was set for December 16.
It is expected the trial will last more than three months.
