Transport bosses agree to act over problem with boy racers
COUNTY council transport chiefs have agreed to visit Llandeilo to tackle boy racers said to be plaguing a busy residential area.
The issue of speeding cars in Carmarthen Road and New Road was raised at a recent meeting of the town council, where it was flagged up to police.
At the time, town councillor Edward Thomas said boy racers were driving at speed through the area late in the evenings. Police said they were aware of the issue.
At a later meeting, the town council's planning sub- committee was told that officials from Carmarthen- shire Council have also responded to the council's concerns. Mr Thomas, who is also chairman of the planning sub-committee, said: "While a site visit is only the first step, it is the in the right direction and hopefully we can address some of the residents' worries and save lives."
He said the council was also going to look at the parking bays in New Road after complaints had been received from some shopkeepers.
Traders were concerned that the new residential parking scheme means there is nowhere for people to stop.
The council's traffic manager John McEvoy confirmed he was meeting with town councillors.
He said: "It is to discuss the concerns raised about speeding traffic and to consider measures to address these concerns."
In relation to the extra parking spaces, he added: "The traffic management section are working to amend the on street traffic regulation order to provide extra limited waiting parking bays on New Street.
"The time limit on these bays will be extended from one hour to three hours to assist local businesses whose customers may need to park on New Street for more than one hour."
