Traders in link-up to boost business
TRADERS in Llandeilo are set to join forces in a bid to boost the town's business community.
More than 30 business owners in the town attended a meeting in Shire Hall to launch the Llandeilo Business Forum.
The forum is set to replace Llandeilo's Chamber of Trade which ended last year.
Duncan Olivier, of AJ's Diner in Rhosmaen Street, was one of the traders in the town keen to get the forum going and said the meeting was well attended by a wide variety of shop owners and other non high street businesses.
He said: "Most businesses feel unanimous about the issues we are experiencing."
Mr Olivier said no decisions were made at the meeting just suggestions.
"The main elements were more collaborative partnerships between businesses and other organisations, to celebrate the good events that Llandeilo already does so well. Such as, the festivals and the need for a 10-year vision for Llandeilo, recognising the hard work that previous generations have contributed and to celebrate the way our community now lives."
He said the business community in Llandeilo is a vital part of the local community, which through some really hard times keeps on trying to find ways to serve the town.
"I am truly hoping that by sharing good practice, networking and more collaborative working, that the business community can find even better ways to serve both the local community as well as our visitors.
"Not everybody will agree with my ideas, but that is the beauty of bringing many different individuals together to share ideas and create more balanced opportunities for future generations," he added.
Llandeilo councillor Edward Thomas said there was a good turnout at the first meeting.
He said: "There were some very good ideas expressed by local traders who have a strong desire to see Llandeilo prosper."
Mr Thomas said he supported the new movement in the town. "It is just to get all the businesses, both shops and tradespeople together under on united front."
He said those joining the forum would benefit from mutual help and assistance of other businesses.
"We no longer have a chamber of trade in Llandeilo so this covers all the shops and other businesses here."
The next meeting of the Llandeilo Business Forum is set to take place in October.
