Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk in the soap, will kick off the celebrations when Poundland opens its door on Saturday, October 3.

A family fun day will also take place at the Wind Street store from 10am, where vouchers will be given out. As the Post reported earlier this month, around 25 new jobs are expected to be created after the cut-price retailer announced it would take over the site of the former Woolworths store.
Speaking at the time, Gareth Nutt, the council's head of regeneration, said it was good news for the town.
"It will create job opportunities for local people and it shows a confidence in the town centre," he said.

“Now I know we have reached rock bottom. A "celebrity" opens a pound shop and the council think its "good news for the town". What would be fantastic news - two pouns shops and a charity shop?
I know times are hard but lets not get too carried away”
