Touring walker and donkey spend week in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea
A WOMAN walking around Wales with a donkey, because she "fancied a big adventure" has stopped off in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.
Hannah Englekamp, of Aberystwyth, praised the kindness and hospitality of the people in the area as she made her journey through this week.
The 34-year-old set off with Chico the donkey from her home town on May 27 and this week arrived in Neath Port Talbot, stopping at Hafod Grange, Goytre on Monday night.
Talking about why she decided to make the journey, Miss Englekamp, 34, said: "I fancied a big adventure.
"I was initially just going to walk around on my own, but taking a donkey somehow seemed to be a good way to get around.
"I'd never owned an animal before and it quite quickly became obvious that was going to be the story of the journey really - a story about getting to know an animal.
"It's just in the last month or so that we've really started to bond - we're really fond of each other now."
Owner, of Hafod Grange Bed and Breakfast, Gail Needham, said she received a call from the Prince of Wales Pub in Kenfig on Monday morning, saying that Hannah and the donkey were on their way and in need of somewhere warm to stay for the night.
Miss Englekamp praised Mrs Needham for her time and generosity. She spent the night on Monday, before making her way to Swansea, stopping off at the former Vetch field and walking along the seafront.
She said she has been surprised by the variety of scenery in the area.
"For the South Wales stretch, I wasn't expecting very much, because of the M4," she added.
"I knew it would be dramatic and I was still looking forward to it, but I was completely surprised by it.
"The people are incredibly hospitable, just fabulous."
Hannah spent a rest day in Dunvant on Thursday, before heading West.
She aims to be back home in Aberystwyth in the next few weeks. To follow her progress, visit www.seasidedonkey.co.uk
