Tour of Tardis-land — and the Post!
TIME-TRAVELLING saviour of mankind Doctor Who and the South
Wales Evening Post may not appear to have much in common at
-

South Wales Evening Post deputy chief sub-editor Emma Bryant explains the newspaper's production process
first glance.
But they will both be featuring in this year's Swansea Open
House event, which gives people the chance of a
behind-the-scenes glimpse at buildings not usually accessible
to the public.
Fans of Doctor Who will be able to take a tour of locations
used in filming the TV series as part of the
through-the-keyhole event, which takes place on the weekend of
September 13 and 14.
More than 40 buildings, from churches to water treatment
works, will be opening their doors over the two days, and
curious readers of the Post will get the chance to come into
the newsroom and see the paper being put together.
Gordon Gibson, of event organisers Sylfaen Cynefin, said:
"We are so pleased to be offering a much higher-profile event,
with more buildings to visit, including a Guildhall tour of
locations used for the recent Doctor Who series."
Among the venues taking part in the scheme are the mayor of
Swansea's official residence, the Mansion House, The Wave and
Swansea Sound radio studios in Gowerton, the marina
observatory, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Swansea
Metropolitan University's Dynevor Centre for Art, Design and
Media.
Matters spiritual will be catered for when Gower churches
including Pennard, Llanmadoc and Cheriton open their doors, and
there will also be a chance to visit the old law courts in the
Guildhall as well as Swansea Museum's storage site in
Landore.
A special bus service is being provided to transport people
between some of the more far-flung venues.
Now in its fifth year, Ty Agored Abertawe Open House is part
of the European Heritage Days initiative co-ordinated by Civic
Trust Wales.
Swansea's programme, the biggest in Wales, is modelled on
similar schemes in London and New York.
Places are limited for many of the venues, and tour times
need to be booked.
Brochures for the event are available at Sylfaen Cynefin's
studio in Salubrious Passage off Wind Street, at tourist
information offices, and in libraries.
A full list of venues taking part can also be found on the
Post website.
