THE Government's refusal to drop Severn bridges tolls has been described as a huge blow to motorists.

Neath councillor John Warman, who founded the Campaign Against Severn Tolls, Cast, said Transport Minister Stephen Hammond warned the no-reduction policy could continue into the 2020s.

"This is a huge blow to road users on both sides of the Severn crossings," said Mr Warman.

"The Government is keeping a nice little easy money spinner going on for as long as possible."

“We will always pay a Toll . But it should be a '' FLAT Rate '' after 2017 for all and not separate one's for a Lorry/Van/Car/bike and other's Just pay for the up keep then over the years..”

“sochat - I'm already paying for a war I don't want and helping out our poor millionaires who struggle to pay their taxes. The cost of maintaining a couple of bridges is a gnat bite in comparison.
Perhaps we should ask the people of Gloucester to support the removal of charges, because I and many thousands of others cross the Severn up there to bypass the toll bridges.”

“I think the lease actually expires in 2017. Anyway, it doesn't matter, we'll still be paying bridge tolls for ever.”

“The people of Wales nor England for there are two sides to any bridge will get no money from the toll neither will they have to pay for the maintenance of the bridges.Im sure the highways agency are acting as agent for whoever owes them and are paid accordingly.”

“The Collection of tolls was leased by the UK Government to Severn Crossing PLC, a company who are FRENCH, repeat, FRENCH OWNED, many years ago
The UK Government and The Welsh Assembly have NO SAY IN TOLL INCREASES.
But the 2 Severn crossing bridges are still maintained by The Highways Agency
The lease, I believe, was granted by a Conservative Government.
    In 2020, the lease expires.
But, no doubt, then the lease will still go to a private company, not to the people of Wales, who get NO money from the toll.”

“If the toll isnt paid by the people using the bridge have a guess who will pay, because there is no such thing as a free lunch.Thats right the money will have to come from general taxation which everone pays so hunreds of thousands of people who do not use the bridge ie. the poorest in society will end up susidising the better off.Councillor Warman should find somthing more constructive rather than blow smoke up peoples butts.”
