Time to move travellers on
I DO not see why we are wasting time looking for alternative sites for travellers (Post, October 3). We should be moving these travellers on from our city altogether.
They are a cost to taxpayers and do not contribute to the community in any way. Do they pay local community tax, NI or income tax? Do they pay rates?
We Swansea householders pay our rates and dues. People save to invest in property so they can improve their life and contribute to the community, then along come these travellers who, assisted by the council, set up a site alongside.
Swansea Council is always talking about this issue but nothing ever gets done.

These travellers park anywhere, especially around Swansea Vale area. Mallard Way, for example, has very large office blocks with a high employment rate yet no parking facility to accommodate all the cars used by staff.
They parked on the road until the council put double yellow lines down to prevent them, then along come the travellers who park there and what happens? Nothing.
How long must the travellers stay at the park and ride?
Next time the residents of Birchgrove, Llansamlet and Peniel Green meet they should make sure they are represented not just by councillors but by a solicitor as well. And when they do I will be there to put my views forward, I promise you.

In answer to your question.Anywhere preferably back to their own countries as persona non grata in the UK.
They already occupy two sites albeit one is illegal.
Why not legalise it and look elsewhere for a Park & Ride site?”

“Neathboy CLM Yes we do have a solution. They do what everyone else has to do - they provide their own accommodation for themselves. When these people start paying my council tax and house maintenance costs then I might be more sympathetic to them.”

“Everyone wants somenthing for nothing, but we all end up paying for the services that we need to maintain/provide,for everyday life to flourish.
When sections of any community, ignore local residents/communities/police,and not pay their way, they are liable for their actions, like everyone.
We can hope that when we get the new police commisioners,we will have somebody to be held accountable,to tackle those in our lives, that cause that distress.”

“Moving them on to where? And what if the good people of every other town also want to move them on? No doubt Mr Wilkins has some kind of final solution up his sleeve”

“I think most people agree with most of what you say,but what part of SWANSEA COUNCIL HAS A LEGAL OBLGATION TO PROVIDE A SECOND SITE dont you understand.I would as far as to say the majority of swansea residence dont want a second site in their city, but blaming the council for something that is out of their control is just totally wrong”
