IT'S beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Swansea as the seasonal Waterfront Winterland rolls into town once more.

The festive-themed funfair, with its skyline-changing giant wheel dominating the green in front of the National Waterfront Museum, has become a popular fixture on the city's calendar over the past few years and now it is back once more to delight young and old alike.

As well as the traditional fair rides the ice rink proves a must-try attraction, with crowds watching people slicing gracefully across the ice or falling on their backsides in equal measures. The younger visitors have the added bonus of being able to hand in the Christmas lists to the man in the big red suit himself while visiting his grotto.

James Pennino, who was visiting with his wife Rebecca and son Jack, said: "It's always something that we look forward to as long as the weather is good.

"It signals the start of Christmas."

Nicola Bromlie, who was there with her children Jake, aged 11, Erin, 6, and three-year-old Lottie, said: "It's good this year, fantastic. It's bigger than it was last year."

Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "Christmas is always a terrific time of the year in Swansea.

"Events like the annual parade and Waterfront Winterland have become hugely popular features of our annual celebrations that help people of all ages get in the spirit of things and count down till the big day."

The event, now in its seventh year also brings good cheer to the city's traders.

Mr Bradley said: "This is a crucial time of year for our city centre traders and it's important we do what we can to encourage shoppers into the city centre. This is why events and attractions of this nature are so important."
