REGIONAL rugby is killing the game in Wales. The WRU keep going on about 3 Grand Slams in the last 10 years whilst keeping quiet about the fall in the numbers of clubs, players and supporters.

Get back to a club league where communities can feel part of the game. The way things are going, in future the only team that will fill the Millennium Stadium will be Cardiff City in the Premier League.

“BTW i don't think it's time to ditch the regions. What will happen is the Dragons will be downgraded, and expect the O's to move to Bridgend. Crowds will continue to dwindle and a slow death will follow.

PS Brian Williams and Kevin Phillips use to enjoy a pint before the game at the greyhound, never mind the day before lol”

“bennyhill4 granted they are very fit, having all week to train i would expect them to be. As far as skills, the ability to pass the ball was sadly lacking last weekend(Johnathan Davies being a good example). As for this weekend except to see loss number 9.

BTW i'm not sure how many people watch the game worldwide, given that there are several billion more people on the plant that in the 1970's i'd imagine so. What worries me, the regions and the WRU is the number watching the leading teams here in Wales. When the O's played their first game at the liberty all those years ago it was almost full. In the interview after the game Mr Cuddy told us all be could expect gates around the 20 thousand mark every week, sadly he was very very wrong.”

“Neathboy 234, I noticed that you did'nt comment on the fact that the players today are fitter, faster and more skillful, and worldwide more people are watching the game than ever before. As for the Welsh team of the 70's, i agree they were good but also very physical, but they would'nt live with the rugby of today given their fitness levels and booze culture where they would drink the day before a match. Give me today's rugby any day of the week”

“bennyhill4 tell me have you ever played the game, i would imagine not. As far as watching regional rugby the last time i went to watch the O's i was surrounded by screaming women, not my idea of a good day out.

BTW i don't know if you remember the welsh team of the 70's, the dirtiest side we ever had, and probably the best. There was no place for sissy's back then.”

“Neathboy234, So you are advocating punching and stamping on somebody? What a moron,There is more skill and fitness in todays game than there was with all those beer bellied slow and ponderous players who spent most of their time on the park punching and stamping on people. I'm glad you dont go to matches these days because people like you are not welcome in the modern game”

“bennyhill4 When i use to go and watch Neath there was often quite a few thousand there, perhaps 4 or 5 thousand for a big game. Even after regional rugby started i went to a game again aberavon where there was 8,000 present. One thing is for sure there were a lot more people watching, Neath, Aberavon, Swansea, Bridgend, Maesteg, bon-y-maen, Dunvant and the like, than watch the Osprey's today.

But at the end of the day it makes little mater what the WRU does, rugby is dying on it's feet and nothing will change that. I myself played rugby from a young boy until my early 30's, and today i wouldn't go and watch a game if it were free. I wouldn't have made a very good player these days either, i would have been sent off very quickly for punching or stamping on somebody every game. Of course when i played it was a man's game, something i don't see very much of now”

“So you are advocating going back to the days when a few hundred turned up to watch their local teams. If we did that there would be no welsh representative in the Heinekin cup, the anglo welsh cup, and all the best welsh players would be plying their trade in england and france even more so than at present”
