Time for action to clean streets
YOU can't say you haven't been warned.
Next month a dedicated team of 'litter police' will be taking to the streets of Swansea to target some of the most selfish in our society.
They will be tasked with identifying those who care little about their surroundings, not to mention the health of our children, by discarding their rubbish on our streets or allowing their pets to foul our pavements.
Then they will be hurting these people where it hurts – in the pocket.
Because that, it would appear, is the only way Swansea can properly tackle this issue.
At a cost of £2.7m a year, the bill for clearing up is far too high, and being paid by those of us who take our responsibility to our community seriously.
This can no longer continue, and the tough measures being introduced by Swansea Council should be welcomed by the vast majority.
Just glance over the border into Carmarthenshire, and the positive effect such a tough stance can provide is all too clear.
The warnings have been made – loud and clear – now is the time for action.
