THE increase in income tax personal allowance to £10,000, announced in the chancellor's budget this week, will benefit 88,800 working people in Swansea and 52,100 in Neath Port Talbot, South Wales West AM Peter Black has said.

Mr Black, who is also a Swansea councillor, said: "When times are tough, with rising bills and wages not keeping pace with inflation, we want to give people real, practical help.

"Cutting Income Tax will not deal with all of those problems, but it will help. And I hope it will make a big difference."

“The so called benefit reforms that will hit thousands of people including those in work is supported by Peter Black's party. Families across the region will be substantially worse off because of the Conservative /Liberal Democrat coilition. Thousands will be affected by the bedroom tax. This is the policy that Peter Black and the Lib-Dems support. Better off with this empty gesture - pull the other leg!”

“As most people haven't had any pay rises for several years this is more of a gesture than a substantive gain. People will also note that their retirement ages have increased, unemployment benefit has been halved to six months and public services are being slashed. Yet this collective of clowns has indulged itself in a pointless Jubilee and an over blown OIympics. More of a statement of failure than anything else.”
